MANGO JAM
> Ongoing graphic novel project, co-produced with Mat Jacob

Mango Jam is a hybrid.  Originally, the images were photographs that, as the narrative went along, were transformed into drawings.  It is a fiction tinged with reality.  During an artistic residency in Japan, we were immersed in and inspired by Manga culture.  We have written a fiction, a photographic detective novel.  We have chosen to be the protagonists of this story by playing a voluntarily caricatured role.

The story in brief:

A man wakes up one morning in a hotel in Brest, France.  He realizes that he’s lost his left eye and cannot remember a thing.  A professional photographer, he can no longer observe the world as he used to.  He leads an investigation that will take him all the way to Tokyo to find the woman who has stolen his eye.
There is a yakuza, a mean bodyguard, high-speed chases and fights in the Shibuya neighborhood.  There is a beautiful mysterious woman, a lost man, a love story, an international commercial conspiracy to acquire the eye… The story is built around a reflection on the world today: liberalism and globalization, photographic commitment, creation, empathy, love and the desire to live… with hints of humor, eroticism and irony.
