Monica Santos

Mónica Santos was born into a family of travelers.  Infused with diverse cultures, she was nourished by the many gazes she came across.  She has developed several different professional avenues so as to be at the service of artistic expression, hers and that of others.  Sensitive to utopian and peripheral projects, she seeks what is outside the frame and continues, more than ever, to defend the possibility of another world.

Since 2005, after a B.A. in Art History from York University in the United Kingdom, and in Fine Arts from the Complutense University in Madrid, she has developed a professional activity as a curator of exhibitions, a graphic designer, an independent exhibition scenographer and, more recently, as a drawer. From 2007 to 2016, she co-directed with Sandra Maunac, Masasam Curatorial Projects, a critical and creative platform specialized in photography.

In 2018, out of a desire and necessity to get away from the compulsive agitation of the world, to cultivate a place and to think serenely about the stakes of our lifestyles, she acquired the Moulin de la Fontaine (The Fountain Watermill) in Thoré La Rochette, in France with Mat Jacob.  Together, they are working to create a cultural center dedicated to the image and the environment that will open in 2019.
